FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HOUSTON — October 29, 2026 — HTX Basket Brigade announces that it has received recognition from the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The recognition follows its incorporation as a Texas nonprofit corporation in 2026 and marks a new chapter for a volunteer effort that has helped Houston families celebrate Thanksgiving for more than a decade.
Inspired by Tony Robbins’ Basket Brigade tradition, James McDonough started the Houston effort in 2015. Michael Schellinger joined him in 2017, bringing their businesses, friends, and colleagues together to help it grow. Over the years, families, local businesses, students, and volunteers have contributed their time and resources to make the annual effort possible.
Incorporation and IRS recognition formalize the organization behind that work while preserving the community spirit that started it. HTX Basket Brigade remains 100% volunteer-run and focused on providing Thanksgiving meals for Houston families in need.
Each year, HTX Basket Brigade collects financial donations, purchases food, and brings volunteers together to assemble baskets filled with ingredients for a complete Thanksgiving dinner. From planning and purchasing to assembly and distribution, the organization focuses on making the most of the resources entrusted to it.
A Thanksgiving meal gives a family the chance to gather, share a familiar tradition, and enjoy a holiday together. Through that simple act of generosity, HTX Basket Brigade helps remind families that their community cares.
Individuals and businesses can now donate directly to HTX Basket Brigade as a recognized 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. The organization’s federal employer identification number (EIN) is 43-2182123.
Supporters can contribute financially, volunteer their time, introduce potential business sponsors, or share the mission with friends and colleagues.
